Praying in True Agreement

Prayer chains are powerful as long as the people praying are in agreement. An interesting Bible verse in Amos 3:3 states, “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?” Unless two or more people are in total agreement with what they are praying, their prayer of agreement will not be effective.

When standing for healing, it is wise not to engage a multitude of people to pray for you because not everyone agrees with what God’s Word says about healing. Some people pray, “If it be your will, Lord, heal them.” These people do not believe that it is God’s will to heal everybody. Pastor Kennedy states that the other side to this prayer is, “If it is not God’s will to heal them, then let them die!” To be blunt, these people do not have faith to receive healing from God, and you do not want them praying for you to be healed.

With that in mind, not long ago, my doctor called me after my yearly mammogram to come in for a second scan. There was questionable tissue in the results of my initial test that he wanted to investigate further. Going for another mammogram is not an earth-shaking event, but things changes when you get another call from your doctor telling you he’s referring you to a surgeon for a biopsy.

When I got the news, I did not tell a soul until Ephesians was settled in my heart that God “. . . is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us . . .” Once that was settled, I shared only with my husband, immediate family, and a few close friends that I would be going for a breast biopsy.

This was a perfect opportunity to stand on Matthew 18:19 which states that “. . . if two of you agree on earth concerning anything they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.” I knew those that I had confided in agreed with the Bible that it is God’s will to heal everyone. The Bible states in Acts 10:34 in the New King James Version that, “In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.” God does not favor one person over another. If Jesus healed one person, he provided healing for everyone!

The day of the biopsy, I was understandably nervous, but I knew from sitting under good Bible teachings that you can doubt in your head and yet still be in faith, trusting God in your heart. I was taken to a waiting area where my husband was asked to leave, and I was left alone. My nerves were on edge so I tried to focus my mind on God in an attempt to settle my troubled soul.

As I sat waiting, calmness swept over me, and the manifest presence of God filled me to overflowing. I was so conscious of the peace that accompanies God’s presence that I was barely aware of the doctor and medical staff performing the biopsy. From that point on, I knew that there was nothing to worry about, for God had the entire situation in His loving Hands. Several weeks later I received a negative biopsy report stating that the questionable area was simply scar tissue.

It is important to make sure that those praying with you understand that it is God’s will to heal everybody all of the time and that they will stand in agreement with you for a positive outcome. Doubts or questions of God’s healing provision do not create an atmosphere of perfect agreement. If you are going through a difficult situation, I encourage you to find others who can stand on God’s Word without reservation, perhaps someone who has seen the hand of God move in their own life.
